High-power laser diodes (greater than 10 watts) are available in the wavelength range from the near infrared to approximately 2000 nanometers. The most common device wavelength range is 808 nm to 980 nm. Common uses for high power laser diodes include pumping of gain media in solid state lasers, pumping and seeding of fiber lasers, materials processing, medical and security sensing applications. They have good electro-optical efficiencies of about 50%. Packaging varies widely from fiber-coupled modules to copper bar mounts.
