1. Deep Tissue Penetration:
Advantage: 878.6nm belongs to the near infrared region (NIR), which has stronger tissue penetration ability than traditional PDT wavelengths (e.g. 630nm, 690nm).
Suitable for: targeted irradiation of deep tumours or visceral tissues, such as prostate cancer, pancreatic cancer, etc.
Limitation: need to be used with photosensitiser sensitive to this wavelength (absorption peak of traditional photosensitiser such as Photofrin, Chlorin e6 is not at 878nm).
