Multifunctional fiber-coupled laser diodes are a type of laser diode where the light generated by the diode is coupled into an optical fiber. This allows the output to be delivered directly to the work area where it is needed, as opposed to free-space output (transmitted through open air or a vacuum). Multifunctional fiber-coupled laser diodes's light exiting the fiber has a circular and smooth intensity profile and a symmetric beam quality.
