Packaging and heat-sinks have been optimized to reduce overall thermal resistance. Using AuSn hard solder, the stacks are assembled in a compact and rugged package. This allows easy connection to a heat exchanger to achieve excellent thermal control.

Laser diode stacks are available in vertical or horizontal configurations, operating in both CW and pulsed modes. Horizontal diode stacks consist of many diode laser bars arranged side by side. This arrangement allows for higher output power and improved beam uniformity, as the individual diodes can be individually controlled and tuned. For certain applications, such as side pumping of solid-state lasers, when higher optical powers are required, laser bar arrays are packaged horizontally.
Vertical diode stacks consist of many diode laser bars arranged vertically, each operating in series. This arrangement provides a smaller footprint and a more compact design, but also limits the maximum output power and can result in an uneven beam.
