The United States is trying different ways to improve the quality of laser weapon beams

From the United States of clemson university, two researchers funding, the pentagon of the $3.2 million project to research and development of the military laser weapon system, in order to satisfy the demands of practical application field. The two researchers, John Ballato and Lin Zhu, are currently experimenting with different ways to improve the quality of a high-powered semiconductor laser beam.

Picture from John Ballato/clemson university.

John Ballato focuses on the improvement of light performance, and he is looking for optical fibers that will not reduce the laser.Optical fiber, which meets the basic performance requirements, will be further optimized to meet the requirements of the next generation of high-power laser systems.Lin Zhu is more focused on improving the pumping efficiency of the laser, thus making a highly directional laser beam.Although the project is separate, the laser power enhancement is actively attempted. This will also boost the use of high-power lasers, either in the military or industrial sectors.
